hunt or be hunted

hunt or be hunted

I took this shot last night at Hyde Park Corner. The statue is the Royal Artillery Memorial on the west side of Hyde Park Corner. The Royal Artillery is the artillery arm of the British Army.

The photo shows one of the bronze figures, an Artillery Captain, standing in a dominant stance as an Adidas Routemaster bus passes by. I thought message on the bus 'hunt or be hunted' to be rather poignant in this instance.

The memorial's main inscription on the west and east faces reads "In proud remembrance of the forty-nine thousand and seventy-six of all ranks of the Royal Regiment of Artillery who gave their lives for King and country in the Great War 1914—1919". Indeed, in order to survive they needed to hunt or be hunted.
